Why Lillibrooke Manor is a gift for a photographer

Lillibrooke Manor is a Grade II listed manor house and a set of historic barns in Cox Green, on the edge of Maidenhead in Berkshire. The estate first appears in the records in 1376, when it was called Lollebrok, and the red brick Manor House was built around 1490.

You get a 500 year old manor house, two timber barns and 15 acres of paddocks and gardens, all a few steps apart. Every hour of the day has its own backdrop.

The Great Barn was a working farm building until 1988, when the grain drying bins came out. Since 2015 the owners have been restoring the whole estate.

It is a short drive from our base in Berkshire, just off the M4 at Maidenhead.

The best photographs happen at Lillibrooke Manor

The main drive. Open paddocks and fields on both sides, and the Manor House at the end of it. The place for a wide shot of the two of you with the whole estate behind.

The Manor House. Old red brick against green lawns and full flower beds. The venue itself suggests the front of the house for the confetti shot, and I agree. It is also a licensed spot for an outdoor ceremony, looking out over the orchard.

The Cloister Garden. The courtyard around the Small Barn, and the venue's outdoor ceremony spot for up to 170 guests. Sheltered, full of planting, and the natural place for drinks.

The Small Barn. Intimate and atmospheric, with fairy lights on old carriage wheels. It seats 130 for a ceremony and it is where an outdoor ceremony moves if it rains.

The Engine House. A glazed hexagonal room joined to the Great Barn, with leather armchairs and a view straight back to the Manor House. Lovely soft light for the quiet portraits.

The Great Barn at night. Candle chandeliers, tall timbers and wash lighting up to the roof. Once the band starts, it comes alive.

How I work

I am there to capture real moments, not to run a long list of poses. I have been praised for being discreet and for staying out of the way of the day.

When you want a few portraits, I give gentle direction and keep it quick. Fully candid, or with some creative direction: you choose.

I usually cover the day from the final touches of getting ready until an hour after the first dance. Before the wedding, I like to walk the grounds with you so we can plan the best spots for your time of year.

I keep my colour natural, and I love a timeless black and white.

Photography, film, or both?

  • Photography. See my candid wedding photography.

  • Film. Anastassia and I make story-driven wedding films. You get a short film to share soon after the day, and a longer film to keep for the family.

  • Hybrid. I shoot both photo and film myself. Hybrid wedding photography and film suits weddings held in one place, and at Lillibrooke Manor the ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing all happen within the same 15 acres.

If you are looking for a Lillibrooke Manor wedding videographer as well as a photographer, booking both with one team means one plan, one timeline and no one in each other's way. Dream Team Films is on the venue's own recommended videographer list.

I am also a licensed drone pilot. Drone rules differ from venue to venue, so I always check with Lillibrooke Manor before your day.

Lillibrooke Manor wedding photography: your questions

Where is Lillibrooke Manor?

On Ockwells Road in Cox Green, on the west side of Maidenhead in Berkshire, postcode SL6 3LP. It is a few minutes from junction 8/9 of the M4, and trains from London Paddington reach Maidenhead in about 20 minutes.

How many guests can Lillibrooke Manor hold?

Up to 170 for the ceremony and the wedding breakfast, and up to 220 for the evening. The Great Barn seats 170 for a ceremony, the Cloister Courtyard 170, the Small Barn 130, the Manor House Garden 130 and the Engine House 60.

Can you get married outside at Lillibrooke Manor?

Yes. The Cloister Courtyard and the Manor House Garden are both licensed for outdoor ceremonies, so the legal part can happen outside too. If the weather turns, the ceremony moves into the Small Barn, which seats 130.

Can you throw confetti at Lillibrooke Manor?

Yes, and the venue is keen on it. Natural, biodegradable confetti only, and no confetti cannons or glitter. The front of the Manor House is the spot the venue suggests for the confetti photos.

Can you fly a drone at Lillibrooke Manor?

Only with care. The Manor sits in a no-fly zone because White Waltham aerodrome is next door, so the pilot needs the proper qualification and written approval from the aerodrome for the date and time. I am a licensed pilot and I sort that paperwork in advance.

What time does a Lillibrooke Manor wedding finish?

On a standard licence, last orders are at 11.30pm and guests leave by midnight. A bar extension to 1am can be requested. Music outside finishes at 6.30pm, so the evening party happens in the Great Barn.
