Why Stanlake Park is a gift for a photographer

Stanlake Park is a working wine estate on the edge of Twyford in Berkshire, a fifteen minute walk from the station and a short drive from our base. The estate goes back to 1166, the manor house to 1626, and the first vines to 1979. It is the largest vineyard in Berkshire.

You get a Grade II listed barn, a courtyard under an old wisteria, a walled garden and rows of vines running off to the trees. It looks like a vineyard abroad, a few minutes by train from Reading.

The two wedding barns sit at the heart of the 130 acre estate. The Coach House looks out on the Courtyard. The Vineyard Barn has glass along one side, so the vines are in view all through dinner.

The best photographs happen at Stanlake Park

The Bow Loft. This is where the morning happens. A restored loft with a dressing table, big mirrors and soft seating, open from 8am. Quiet, private and a kind light for the getting ready photos.

The Courtyard. Old brick, an ancient wisteria and a neat lawn in front of the Coach House. Drinks are served here after the ceremony, and the rose petal confetti goes up here.

The Coach House. A Grade II listed barn and the smaller of the two licensed ceremony spaces, for up to about 100 guests. You can marry inside, or with your guests spilling into the Courtyard. No amplified music is allowed in here, which keeps the vows quiet and personal.

The vines. Outdoor ceremonies can happen on the Vineyard Terrace, right next to the vineyard. The long rows give a strong line for the couple portraits, and in summer they are heavy with grapes. Access to the vines depends on the season, so I agree the spots with the team beforehand.

The Walled Garden. Sixteenth century brick, gnarled old vines and ancient apple trees. This is where I take the portraits at golden hour, and it works in every season.

The Vineyard Barn at night. In daylight the glass wall makes this room. Once the band starts, the fairy lights and timber rafters take over.

How I work

I am there to capture real moments, not to run a long list of poses. I have been praised for being discreet and for staying out of the way of the day.

When you want a few portraits, I give gentle direction and keep it quick. Fully candid, or with some creative direction: you choose.

I usually cover the day from the final touches of getting ready until an hour after the first dance. Before the wedding, I like to walk the grounds with you so we can plan the best spots for your time of year.

I keep my colour natural, and I love a timeless black and white.

Photography, film, or both?

  • Photography. See my candid wedding photography.

  • Film. Anastassia and I make story-driven wedding films. You get a short film to share soon after the day, and a longer film to keep for the family.

  • Hybrid. I shoot both photo and film myself. Hybrid wedding photography and film suits weddings held in one place, and at Stanlake Park the ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing all happen within a few steps of each other.

If you are looking for a Stanlake Park wedding videographer as well as a photographer, booking both with one team means one plan, one timeline and no one in each other's way.

I am also a licensed drone pilot. Stanlake Park only allows drones with its written approval, so I always sort that with the venue well before your day.

Stanlake Park wedding photography: your questions

Where is Stanlake Park and how do guests get there?

Stanlake Park is in Twyford, Berkshire, on the road out towards Wokingham, postcode RG10 0BN. Twyford station is a fifteen minute walk, with direct trains from London Paddington in about 25 minutes.

How many guests can Stanlake Park hold?

The Vineyard Barn seats up to 150 for a ceremony and around 150 for dinner, depending on the table layout. The Coach House holds up to about 100. The evening limit is 200 people on site.

Can you get married outside at Stanlake Park?

Yes, in the Courtyard by the Coach House, or on the Vineyard Terrace beside the vines. Outdoor ceremonies always need the venue's go-ahead, with the final call made about 24 hours before.

Is confetti allowed at Stanlake Park?

Natural rose petal confetti only, and only outdoors. Confetti cannons and glitter are banned everywhere on the estate. Real petals photograph beautifully.

What happens if it rains at Stanlake Park?

Ceremonies of 100 or fewer move into the Coach House, larger ones into the Vineyard Barn. Its glass wall keeps the vines as a backdrop whatever the weather, and the Walled Garden looks richer, not duller, in the wet.

Can you have sparklers, fireworks or a drone at Stanlake Park?

Fireworks, lanterns, fire pits and naked flames are not allowed, because the barns are timber and the vines are close. Sparklers are allowed with prior approval, except in dry spells. Drones need written approval in advance. All music stops at 11.30pm.
